Hello everybody. I am The Anh. Wellcome to IELTS English Club.
In this room, we look at the skills you will need to read, write formal, academic English, and you will have the chance to discuss about topics you will find at colleges and universities abroad.
I am preparing for IELTS test now. I hope some day I will have enough IELTS points to get full scholaship to study in Australia, UK or may be USA.
Do you have the same thinking like me? Join our club, please. We will practice with echother, correct our fault and have many funny here (etc...). And some day we all go to study abroad.

Have anyone volunteer to become Moderator in this club ? Please, please please don't be silly.

Description of an IELTS test

IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is a test for students who must demonstrate English language proficiency to gain entry to universities or training programs in English-speaking countries. For overseas candidates wishing to study in tertiary institutions in the United Kingdom or Australia, in particular, IELTS is the most widely recognized assessment of English language proficiency.

The IELTS test is divided into 4 parts, called “modules” or “subtessts”. The entire tests around 2 hours and 45 minutes.

1) Listening modules: 4 sections, around 40 questions.
Time: 30 minutes.
The types of questions may include:
 Short answer  Completing notes
 Multiple choice  Completing a summary
 matching  completing a table
 referring to a map  completing a form
 completing sentences  completing a flow chart or diagram

2) Reading modules: 3 sections, around 40 questions. Time: 60 minutes
 Short answer  Completing a summary
 Multiple choice  completing a table
 matching  completing a form
 classification  completing a flow chart or diagram
 completing notes  selecting headings for paragraphs and sections
 Recognising a writer’s views or claims

3) Writing modules: 2 tasks; one of at least 150 words, one of at least 250 words. Time: 60 minutes
3.1) Writing Task 1: write a minimum of 150 words, it is recommended for time of about 20 minutes.
3.2) Writing Task 2: write a minimum of 250 words, it is recommended for time of about 40 minutes

4) Speaking modules: it depends
Time: 10-15 minutes
The contents may be divided into five parts:
4.1. Introduction: your interests, family, work, etc...from 1-2 minutes
4.2. Extended discourse: talk about general interest topics as: culture, work, etc..from 3-4 minutes.
4.3 Elicitation: describle a task, involves getting information on a particular topic...from 3-4 minutes.
4.4. Speculation and attitudes: discuss your study plans and future goals...with more compex questions...takes about 3-4 minutes.
4.5. Conclusion:

Test results:
Listening: band: 6.5
Reading: band: 6.0
Writing: band: 7.0
Speaking: band: 6.5
Overall band 6.5

Example of a Writing task of IELTS test

You should spend about 40 minues on this task.

You have been asked by a university teacher to present a written argument on the following topic.

The idea of going overseas for university study is an exciting prospect for many people. But where it may offer some advantages, it is probably better to stay home because of the difficulties inevitably encounters living and studying in a different culture.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer.


You should write at least 250 words.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Bí quyết thi IELTS

1) Không nên chỉ chú trọng rèn luyện bốn kỹ năng mà quên đi việc thực tập làm bài thi thử có tính thời gian như thi thật.

2)Các thí sinh thường có khuynh hướng muốn được giáo viên hướng dẫn thật kỹ môn viết nhưng lại không để ý đến lời nhận xét của giáo viên chấm bài viết của họ, vì thế kết quả của những bài viết sau không khá hơn so với các bài viết trước.

Lời khuyên: hãy chú trọng đến lời đánh giá của giáo viên trên từng bài viết của mình và cố gắng sửa ngay những lỗi có trong bài viết sau. Các bước có được một bài viết hay là sắp xếp bố cục thật chặt chẽ, biết phát triển ý dựa trên bố cục và sau cùng là xem lại bài viết cho hoàn chỉnh.

3) Tương tự, các thí sinh muốn được hướng dẫn phương pháp cải thiện kỹ năng nghe và đọc nhưng bản thân lại không chịu thực tập thật nhiều.

Lời khuyên: hãy dành thời gian luyện tập kỹ năng đọc và nghe cho thật tốt. Bạn lưu ý, bài thi thiết kế nhằm để bạn chạy đua với thời gian nên đừng cố gắng hiểu từng từ một, hãy tập trung để nắm bắt những thông tin cần thiết. Như vậy, đọc kỹ phần hướng dẫn và câu hỏi là kim chỉ nam của bạn đấy. Và cố gắng trả lời tất cả các câu hỏi, kể cả những câu bạn không chắc chắn lắm vì "còn nước còn tát".

4) Riêng về môn nói, tự tin là yếu tố quyết định. Bạn đừng quá lo lắng phải nói chính xác mà mất đi sự tự tin, thoải mái và lưu loát khi diễn đạt ý kiến của mình.

IELTS Speaking Test

The Speaking module have 3 parts : Time 11 - 14 minutes

In part 1 : the examiner will ask you general questions about yourself (family, home, life, habits, studies, plans...)
-> give full answer and add extra information about the topic

In part 2 : the examiner will give you a card with some prompts. You have 1 minute to prepare to talk for 1-2 minutes on the topic on the card. The examiner will not interrupt you ỏ ask questions while you are speaking
-> Use the preparation time well. You can make notes if you like, but remmber you only have 1 minute. Think of one or two things to say about each point on the card

In part 3 : the examiner will ask you some more general questions related to the topic in part 2. The discussion lasts between 4 or 5 minutes
-> expressing a personal opinion
