Features of the Project
The Project includes the development of a new landfill, widened and improved access road, expansion and improvement of the current system of garbage collection and transportation, and a facility to process the garbage into a renewable resource as an agricultural product (compost). The new landfill will be developed in stages to accept all rejected material from the composting operation, not suitable for composting.
The Project consists of a complete integrated solid waste management project strategy and will include the following:
a. Improve the collection efficiency of all domestic wastes with a new collection system utilizing new compaction vehicles and more efficient utilization of these vehicles and waste transfer techniques.
b. Improve the collection of sewage sludge from drains by using new vacuum tankers.
c. Expand and improve the collection of industrial wastes at individual factories and export processing zones.
d. Provision of new street & gutter vacuum sweepers to maintain clean streets.
e. Establishment of a new landfill operation adjacent to the new compost processing plant and will include all necessary facilities such as weighbridge, electricity, water supply and drainage system.
f. Implementation of a modern and efficient 200 tons per day recycling and composting facility for all domestic solid wastes, This will include all infrastructure such as power extension, well water supply, drainage system, site civil works and all facility buildings for the composting plant, truck maintenance and repair workshop, office worker hostel and laboratory.
g. Provide fencing and gate control facilities to secure the site including weighbridge, and enable performance monitoring of all incoming vehicles.
h. Provide collection, treatment, and discharge systems for all leachate contaminated waters so as to meet effluent requirements to support the water quality needs of the receiving water body and any down gradient receiving waters.
i. Provide an odor and gas removal and treatment systems for composting facilities and new landfill.
j. Provide parking space for landfill equipment and vehicles which will serve the facility.
k. Provide washing facilities for landfill equipment.
l. Provide office facilities for site supervisors and support staff, as well as for training and meetings.
m. Construction Cost
We have estimated in detail the capital cost of the project from the installation of mechanical equipment through to the completion of the infrastructure and civil works. The capital cost includes compaction vehicles etc. A project cost monitoring program will be implemented to ensure that the project costs are controlled and monitored on a monthly basis and contained within the contract value. It is proposed that an operational and maintenance training program be provided for the operation and maintenance of the landfill and composting facility.
